If you have any questions about your Monte Baunk artworks, editions, exhibitions etc.
I create digitally using ProCreate on my trusty Art Machine (my iPad Pro) + Apple Pencil.
“Digitally” means that instead of a physical canvas, paint brushes and inks, I start each artwork with a white screen. I paint each stroke intentionally. Each line, right down to its color, thickness, pressure and curve was meticulously drawn (probably a few times) until I am happy with how it contributes towards my artwork.
I then have my artworks produced using the giclee process on archival paper or canvas. I strictly use Epson UltraChrome acid free inks to achieve this deep luminous result.
An artworks edition tells you how many of them were made, or can ever be made, and which number out of that set edition is yours. Let’s say your standard A3 size artwork on canvas is editioned “3/5”. This means that there will only ever be 5 prints made of that artwork in that size, on that medium/material, and you have no. 3 of the 5. Each one of my official artworks come with a certificate of authenticity chopped and hand signed, this will include your artwork edition along with some other details.
Editions are based on size as well as medium/material. This means that a standard A2 artwork could have an edition of 3 prints on Illford Gallery Textured Silk, but also another 5 editions on Canvas, for example. I try my best to stay away from editioning based on material now since committing to Rembrandt Canvas. Most of my work now are as follows:
- A4 Standard Size – 210 x 297 mm are normally x/11 or in some cases x/5.
- A3 Standard Size – 297 x 420 mm are normally x/5.
- A2 Standard Size – 420 x 594 mm are normally x/3.
- A1 Standard Size – 594 x 841 mm are normally x/3.
- Lastly 1/1 True Size Originals in the size that the artwork was intended to be.
Some work created and sold between 2020 and 2022 were not well documented and some even incorrectly editioned. Those should be super valuable later on.
Since 2023 every sale and artwork I create is documented. I’ve moved away from paper and only print on Rembrandt canvas now, unless I am looking for a specific paper texture. I hand embellish most of my newer work with various physical art mediums to make them unique and add an element of traditional art to the equation.
True Size Original (TSO) artworks are as close to an original 1/1 Monte Baunk work you can get. TSO’s are fine art prints in the actual size that the particular artwork was created in. They are always uniquely hand embellished, hand framed, and I’ll only ever make 1 edition of that artwork available in that size. 👌🏼
a Monotype (M) is a 1/1 artwork. They are certified fine art prints of a specific size and medium. I’ll only ever make 1 edition of that artwork available in that size and medium (type of fine art paper or canvas used to create the artwork). Keep in mind that the same, as well as other sizes of the artwork in different mediums may still be produced and sold.
Each one of my official artworks come with a certificate of authenticity chopped and hand signed, this will include your artwork edition along with some other details.
I’ve been drawing and creating art since I was young. Years of experimenting with different mediums and ideas all led to how and why I create digitally today. I’ll occasionally draw with fineliners and paint markers to create handmade originals, but those are extremely rare. Creating digitally compliments my style.
You may collect your artwork from The Gallery Art Bar (Illovo Muse, 180 Oxford Rd, Illovo) after making arrangements with either myself or Mike.
